MANILA – The Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) said Tuesday it has donated 350 beds to boost the capacity of the quarantine facility at the Philippine International Convention Center in efforts to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, the MPTC said this was to support the Department of Public Works and Highways’ “Heal as One” COVID-19 project.

“We welcome the opportunity to support DPWH in achieving its target for PICC and other quarantine facilities,” MPTC Vice President Celeste Pia Alimon said.

PICC is one of the few facilities which has been converted into a quarantine facility to house patients being treated for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Among the other facilities are the Ninoy Aquino Sports Complex, the PhilSports Arena (ULTRA) and the World Trade Center.

MPTC facilitates operations of major tollways such as the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and the Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX).

Other private sector initiatives have been helping boost the country’s capacity to treat patients of COVID-19, which has infected 6,599, with 654 recoveries and 437 deaths, as of Tuesday.
